For Love of Country

How to best promote a crew of young London designers relatively unknown on this side of the pond? Ask Emma Watson, a.k.a. Harry Potter’s Hermione, a.k.a. the highest-grossing actress of the last decade, to host a party. Watson was in town for just one night on her way home to the U.K. from Brown University for a week of spring break. “I can be fairly anonymous in Providence,” she told us. Not a chance of that on Houston and the Bowery outside of Pulino’s, where fans who had gotten wind of the star’s appearance there waited with camera phones in hand to meet her.

Inside Keith McNally’s new pizzeria, the flashbulbs kept on popping, as Watson, who wore a dress by Christopher Kane, posed with Vogue’s Anna Wintour and Sarah Mower, and models like Constance Jablonski, Taryn Davidson, and Ajak Deng lined up beside their designer dates. Fabiola Beracasa reported that she had ventured into the Vogue closet alongside “12 six-foot-tall Amazon models” to find the Erdem Moralioglu dress she was wearing. “I hope he sees me in it and sends me his whole collection,” she joked.

The Londoners—minus Kane and Moralioglu, both of whom have already “emerged”—had spent the last three days at the Soho Grand penthouse showing off their Fall collections to buyers and press, and by the sounds of it, some weren’t quite ready to go home. Peter Pilotto, who was the guest of honor at a dinner thrown by Opening Ceremony at the Jane the night before, said, “Everything looks a little bit better here.”
