Champagne Wishes and Caviar Kaspia Dreams

Posted by: admin  :  Category: Apparel Software

Proprietor Ramon Mac-Crohon looked around the packed room and said, “The most beautiful people in Paris are here.” Well, you would say that about your own restaurant, but the simple truth was that Giambattista Valli had drawn a particularly gorgeous crowd to Caviar Kaspia to mark the opening of his first boutique. Cue tawny mane-tossing, as the likes of Bianca Brandolini d’Adda, Andrea and Charlotte Dellal, Tatiana Santo Domingo, Dasha Zhukova, Giovanna Battaglia, Sonia Sieff, and Caroline Sieber fêted their friend. There were blondes, too, equally blessed with healthy amounts of hair: Elena Perminova, Eugenie Niarchos, Diane Kruger, and Lauren Santo Domingo, due in April and still working a sample size to spectacular effect. Given his tribe of genetically gifted spokeswomen, Giamba’s logical brand extension must be shampoo.

But first, he has that store to play with. It’s inside an old arcade that used to be a meeting place for the French Resistance during WWII, but it’s less the romance of the past than a bare-bones contemporary feel that greets you when you walk in: concrete floor, brick walls, beamed ceiling. The space is deceiving—at first, it looks small, but it opens up and just goes on and on. And the rough-hewn quality highlights the preciousness of the contents—not just the Valli collection in all its glory, but also his collaboration with Longchamp, exclusive to this store (you’ve got about a day to get that leopard bag before it sells out completely), and the jewelry of Roman master Luigi Scialanga, whose silver cuffs are appropriately presented inside big glass domes like relics of the future.

Paris, Italy

It was one of those nights in Paris when a body was spoiled for choice. The first stops on the itinerary: drinks with Van Cleef & Arpels early in the evening, then a celebration of Gucci’s remodeled store on the Rue Royale.

Beauties galore turned out to support the Italian house’s creative director, Frida Giannini: Diane Kruger, Jessica Alba, Laetitia Casta, Tali Lennox, and the stupendous Gemma Arterton, who wants all of you to watch her movie, The Disappearance of Alice Creed, because it is quite possibly the most powerful film no one has ever seen. It being the day after Oscar noms were announced, Frida was wondering about the chances of her boy, James Franco. She admitted she couldn’t make it through the scene in 127 Hours in which the Gucci fragrance ad star has to amputate his own arm. She had spent the last bit of the movie in the bathroom. Franco was bitterly disappointed.

Then it was off to dinner, or rather, dinners. While Carine Roitfeld was hosting Giannini and co. at the Italian embassy, Ella Krasner and “cultural diplomacy festival organization” Liberatum were busy honoring a decade of Another Magazine. Le Stresa provided the backdrop, and as it’s a restaurant with a lot of happy memories for a lot of people, the evening was awash with good vibes. Proof that Another’s Jefferson Hack effortlessly straddles worlds could be found in a guest list that included Daphne Guinness, Rick Owens, Stephen Jones, Riccardo Tisci, Amanda Eliasch, and late arrival Marianne Faithfull. Even later came Kate Moss, delivered safely by Suzy Menkes after the Gucci dinner. Rapprochement ruled as old scores were settled under the influence of Le Stresa’s food and wine.

Star Man

Giorgio Armani’s Couture show last night was the first-ever fashion outing for both Jodie Foster and Olivia Wilde. When it was over, Jodie turned to Olivia and said, “What do we do now?” Easy. Join Mr. A., their host for the evening, at Mathis for an intimate dinner. The rest of the front row showed up, too: Pedro Almodóvar, Graeme Black, Poppy Delevingne with boyfriend James Cook, and Sophia Loren. Her date was her son Edoardo Ponti. Foster cut out early to work on her lines for God of Carnage, the film she’s making in Paris at the moment with Roman Polanski (and there are a lot of lines, as anyone who saw the stage show will recall), but Wilde was happy to sit and chat about her flood tide of new projects. When your current and future co-stars include Daniel Craig, Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Eric Bana, Charlie Hunnam, Chris Pine, and Justin Timberlake (even if she is playing JT’s mother), who wouldn’t want to sit and gloat…just a little?

The Etam show at the Grand Palais, meanwhile, attracted its own fair share of celebrities, including a few—like Beth Ditto, Boy George, and Janelle Monáe—who themselves took to the stage.
