Ginnifer Goodwin allows that she’s quite the “fashion girl,” so if it took a little designer homework to get up to speed on Vionnet, the Big Love actress was ready for it. “I was obsessed with my Golden Globes dress this year. It was the first time that I ever wore the label, and I didn’t know much about it, so I read up on the history.” Goodwin was equally entranced by the charcoal cutout velvet number she wore to host a party at Saks last night for the storied French house’s new designer, Rodolfo Paglialunga—not to mention the thigh-high vegan boots he made for her. “I want to keep the idea of how Madeleine Vionnet made clothes that were good and flattering for women,” said Paglialunga, “but, of course, to make it fresh as well.”
That’s a persuasive combination for Saks president and chief merchandising officer Ron Frasch—the department store has installed the brand in a dedicated section on the designer third floor. As for his hosting duties, which he shared with Goodwin, Vogue’s Virginia Smith, and Vionnet’s Matteo Marzotto, Frasch joked, “I’m in it for the women.” There were plenty of those on hand, including model Jessica Stam, Sophomore’s Chrissie Miller, and Lauren Remington Platt. Wearing head-to-toe Vionnet, Platt commented, “I call this a ‘buddy outfit,’ because I need a friend to help me get it on.”
